It's just amazing how enriching and rewarding it is to pass on knowledge and education to people that are eager to learn. It's these kinds of people that make the future look promising, by being willing to listen, learn and develop their skills to fuel their passion. The Foto Frenzy team and I recently took to the sunny warm beaches of Coolangatta to host the first Intro to Shooting Waves workshop. Despite the weather (not so sunny, lets leave it at that..) all the participants were stoked and passionate to hear what we had to share.
The weekend consisted of small and less favourable conditions but we all got out in the water and had fun, each participant received a manual that we worked through together with on screen presentations and practical examples that covered everything from ocean safety, learning the environment, reading the waves and identifying the zones in the surf. We also dived into understanding fundamental camera techniques, spoke about our motives and inspirations for photography then followed up with getting in the water and putting everything we learnt into practice. I personally got a lot of value out of the weekend, made a lot of new friends and established connections which I'm sure will last a life time.
It was so good to have the support of the Canon Collective crew and AquaTech to add to the weekend by providing a range of gear and expert advice. The event was such a great success that we are holding another one on the South Coast of NSW on the 25th-26th February.
